Skarp Razor

A new kickstarter is up for the shaving industry, and this particular product challenges the whole way everyone shaves. I’ve heard of shaving with cartridges of all kinds, straight razors, I’ve even read articles about ancient shaves that used sharpened stones. This new product, however, is a first. The Skarp Lazer Razor. I wish I was joking here, but the Skarp is a product that would make any Sith Lord proud. The product is billed to use lasers to cut hair, requiring no water and no waste. Additionally, the product is said to provide a cut-free, infection-free shaving experience. The design comes from a medical industry professional who worked on bringing existing laser hair removal products to market. The Skarp razor only emits light on contact with a strand of hair, and the wavelengths of laser light have been tuned to those that affect hair, meaning that the laser light doesn’t enter the skin. Additionally, the laser is said to not emit any UV light, making this a safer alternative to existing laser hair removal treatments. The product is billed for a March, 2016 release. Links to the kickstarter can be found in the shownotes at Sharpologist.

CBS New York

CBS New York ran a story about women and shaving. We know that The Razor Queen isn’t an anomaly anymore, as the trend of women shaving their faces is becoming more common. Citing smoother complexions, and benefits to healthy skin growth, even some medical experts recommend the process. They refer to it as “derma-planing,” which allows healthy skin cells to come to the top layer of skin, promoting healthier overall skin.

  1. The strange thing about the Skarp (laser) razor Kickstart campaign—as far as I can see, there isn’t one video of someone shaving their face with one. So, as far as I’m concerned, they don’t have a prototype. They have a concept.
Show me someone shaving their face!
