Shaving Scents Associated With Autumn

Listen to this article

As the weather cools down and the leaves begin to fall, it’s time to start thinking about all of the wonderful scents that come with the Autumn season. From pumpkin spice and apple cider to cinnamon and nutmeg, there are so many wonderful smells to enjoy. And what better way to enjoy them than by incorporating them into your daily shave routine?

 Research

I did some research to try to determine what scents are usually associated with the fall. Here is a sample of what I found:

THE BEST Fall Scents Everyone LOVES!

From this I came up with some broad categories of scent types.  Then I tried to match some shave soaps and creams to those types.  These aren’t the only shave products of course, but I did try to make a representative sample of creams, soaps, artisans, and more “mainstream” brands.

Fall Spices

As the weather cools and the leaves begin to change color, many people’s thoughts turn to cozy fires, warm drinks, and all the delicious comfort foods of fall. While there are many ingredients that can evoke the flavors and scents of autumn, three spices in particular are associated with this season: cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove.

Cinnamon is probably the most well-known of these spices, and it’s often used in baking to add a warm flavor. It can also be added to coffee or tea for a bit of extra warmth on a chilly day. Nutmeg is another spice commonly used in baked goods like pies and cookies. It has a slightly sweet flavor with a hint of bitterness. Cloves are often used in savory dishes like stews or roasted meats.

I also wonder if Bay Rum shave products might be considered “Autumn” due to elements like clove and cinnamon.  Check out What Is Bay Rum And Why is it in My Shaving Stuff? for more discussion on that.

Fall Squash

As the leaves begin to change color so does the produce in grocery stores. Butternut squash and pumpkins are two of the most popular items associated with the Autumn season.  Both butternut squash and pumpkins are harvested in the fall and can typically be found at farmer’s markets or in grocery stores during this time of year.

Fruit

One fruit that is often thought of as being synonymous with Autumn is the apple. Apples are harvested in the late summer and early fall. Pears are also harvested in late summer and early fall, so they’re perfectly ripe and delicious around this time of year.

Sandalwood?

The scent of Sandalwood is sometimes considered an Autumn scent.  However when it comes to the “Sandalwood scent” there are so many variations that it is difficult to make a conclusion one way or the other.  Read all about Sandalwood here.
