Merkur 34 Adjustable

The Merkur 34 Adjustable (34 ADJ) safety razor was officially released on May 8, 2026. Priced at 79 euros.

Key Details About the Release

  • Design Hybrid: The razor merges the iconic, heavy-duty short handle of the classic non-adjustable Merkur 34C (a staple since the 1950s) with an adjustable blade gap mechanism heavily inspired by the Merkur Progress head design.
  • Adjustment Range: By turning the knob at the base of the handle, wet shavers can scale the blade gap from 0.6 mm to 1.6 mm, allowing customization from a mild daily shave to a coarser hair setting.
  • Launch Platform: It was introduced directly on the Official MERKUR Stahlwaren.

Gillette New Razor: Fact of Fiction?

Well if you happen to ask AI if Gillette is coming out with a new adjustable razor you’ll get an answer.

‘And it’s 100% not true.  That’s right, it’s fiction! A few people posted an April Fool’s joke last month and it tricked AI into thinking it was true.

So to answer the question:  No unfortunately Gillette is not coming out with a new adjustable razor.

You’re listening to Wet Shaving Talk, powered by Sharpologist.com, where we’re dedicated to preserving the art and skill of classic shaving. I’m your host, Joe Borelli, and today is May 29th, 2026. Hey guys, welcome back to the podcast.

Hopefully you had a great Memorial Day weekend that just passed by. Got to relax a little bit. Got a three-day weekend, long weekend. And really started to kick off the summer season, because that’s really, I believe, what does it.

Summer starts in the middle of June, but I believe everybody starts with Memorial Day. It’s like the first outdoor holiday for mostly everybody up north. And for here, where I’m at, it’s usually the same thing. A lot of things going on.

My son just finished kindergarten. So just graduated this week. He’s done. So really excited to see him go through.

He got some awards and he did very well with his kindergarten diploma. So glad to see he’s doing well. And really, it’s actually probably more exciting for me as a parent and my wife because we got to see all the struggle go throughout the year. We’re doing the homework, even though he’s little and it’s still kindergarten.

It’s just really fun to watch him finish and get a diploma and move on to the next step. So first grade, here we come, and wishing him the best of luck. And for you guys too, I know a lot of people all over the country, school changes at different times, all over the world really. So enjoy those moments.

If you are working, try to take the time off. Make sure you’re there for them, because it is very much worth it. And it’s really fun to watch the little guys and big guys. And at any age, when you graduate, it’s a big deal.

So congratulations to him and to all of the graduates out there. So in terms of wet shaving, though, guys, we have a really, I think, exciting show. We’ve got a new razor from Mercure. I believe that’s how it’s pronounced, sorry.

A new adjustable razor that came out from them recently, just a little bit ago, and starting to get some, I guess some people are starting to receive them and start using them and getting a lot of good results. or good reviews, so really exciting to see a company of that time, you know, a long-term wet shaving company, right, it’s been around for a long time, come out with new stuff, right? Especially Adjustable, because this is really, it’s actually a really cool razor. And Gillette’s new razor is the adjustable 395.

Is this fact or fiction? I don’t know. If you ask AI, it may get something that may not be the truth. I’ll tell you from my research what the truth is and why or why not to trust AI.

Rocknell, for the 2026, they have announced that their 2026 Master Collection is out, but they also announced an aluminum razor at an affordable price. So if you always want to try a Rocknell adjustable, but felt it was a little bit priced out of your price range, they made an aluminum version that is actually less than one third, about one third of the price of the regular stainless steel model. We’ll talk about that. And Father’s Day is coming up, how to give the perfect gift for your dad, for you, your husband, or for the father in your life.

How do you give the perfect gift? I have three steps, make it really easy for you this year, how to pick it, and make sure you get the right item. So guys, without further ado, let’s get on with the show. Mercure has come out with the, and I do think, I believe I am pronouncing it correctly, because I saw it on the, on Mantic’s article that there is a certain way.

So it’s Mucure. And it’s the 34 adjustable. And what is a 34 adjustable? Oh, that’s a new number.

I haven’t seen that one yet. Well, it’s a safety razor. It was actually announced and released on the 8th of May only through their website at 79 euros. Great price for a adjustable razor.

You’re talking about it’s about $100 US, probably shipped maybe a little bit more, maybe a little less, for an adjustable razor from a well-known company. It’s a design hybrid, so it merges the 34C with an adjustable, with like the Progress, I guess, similar to that, but a little bit of a different adjustable knob and everything. And it gives you from a blade gap from 0.6 millimeter to 1.6 millimeter. So it gives you a very large range of blade gap to make it either really aggressive or very, very mild.

And it’s only, from what I can see, it’s only launched on Mercure’s website. So this, guys, I’m going to talk a little bit about it because it’s a big deal. This is a big deal that Mercure came out with a new razor. The 34C has been around at least about, I think we’re closing in on the 70-year mark, right?

It’s been around almost 70 years for that design razor. And for them to enhance the design with an adjustable knob, keeping it under 100 euros or $100, if you think about it with the exchange rate, it’s still about $100 US. It’s incredible to get a razor like that shipped directly to you for around $100. I think this is really exciting.

As you guys know, a lot of people love the Mercure Progress. That one, that razor is unadjustable. They’ve had it for a long time. A lot of people love that razor.

this razor enhances the what everybody loves about the 34c same design knurling all that stuff head design with an adjustable feature so this is really cool this is really nice and i think everybody is going to want it wants an adjustable razor will end up getting this based on price alone in history of this company So I definitely recommend it. And I also saw some positive reviews. So everybody’s starting to get it in the United States when they purchased it.

When it first came out, you know, it does take a little time to get it. So we’re seeing some really good reviews on it. So continue to look into this razor if you guys are looking for an adjustable. If you’re a Mercure fan, this is the way to go.

You can’t leave this one out of your collection. Again, I don’t work for the company. I don’t represent them in any way. I do know good razors when I see them.

Every Mercure razor I’ve had has been pretty good. Again, they are not stainless steel, CNC machined, all that stuff. you know overly heavy they’re not they’re not the highest quality of of material right that’s why it’s 79 euros but if you can get over that and like it you like that that’s fine right for this razor i i have a couple of of uh mccore razors and i i find them to be very fun i think the future is a great razor especially when you get it in uh matted aluminum i think like the matted finish i think that’s an awesome adjustable razor it’s a lot of fun to use and they’re easy to work

with right there if they break you can get them fixed you can fix them so I got to say, good luck, McCoy, with this razor. I have a feeling this will be in your lineup for a long time, and this will be a wet shaver first for a lot of new guys and for our seasoned guys. I think we’re going to be going for this razor, too, because it looks like a lot of fun and a great concept. All right, so something on the online forums that you have given us a little bit of, well, I would say a little bit of false, true or false, I guess, fact or fiction.

With the Gillette coming out with a new razor. So if you go ahead and ask AI right now if Gillette is coming out the new adjustable razor, you’ll get the you’ll get an answer that says it is coming out the 395 should the 395 I guess you can call it adjustable based on the 1950s design of a Gillette adjustable razor It’s 100% not true. And this is what happened.

On April 1st, a bunch of guys in the wet shaving world, they posted this as an April Fool’s joke. Well, the April Fool’s joke fooled AI. And now I went and saw that post. I’m like, this is not true.

I went on to AI, and I searched it. And it said, yes, it is true. It’s going to come out in 2026. I’m saying it almost fooled me like I and I really it’s I spend more time on this than I probably should have because it is fake but Because of the the people that are posting into the internet that it’s true with an April Fool’s joke AI and Google

Google AI Gemini thinks that this is true so This just goes to show you, like, I know a lot of people use AI. My work, we’re using AI more often. I’m using AI with a lot of stuff that I do on the side as well. And you’ve got to be very careful.

You have to, you know, nothing beats good old-fashioned research. because this is one of them that proves to you that I could have posted today if I just went by AI. Hey guys we’re getting a new 395 Gillette adjustable razor coming out brand new from Gillette and I would be posting it would be false news and I would even enhance to that algorithm that has online regarding it and I would also give you guys false news so if I didn’t do the research this would have been a pretty bad post because when I saw that And I googled it.

I saw a lot of people posting on it. I was thinking, hey, this is great. This might be really exciting news. And then when I looked on AI, AI confirmed it.

So I was like, I’m almost ready to post this. And then when I started saying, you know what? Let me dig in a little deeper like I used to and go into each post that I can find on the forums. And I found two of them that said April Fool’s.

And I said, OK, this is fake. So, just giving you guys a heads up. So, is it fact or fiction? Is Gillette coming out with a new adjustable razor?

No, it’s fiction. But if you go online, it’s going to say fact. So, I think we still have some work to do with AI, I think, as a world, right? Technology is still really good.

It’s very great AI, I think, for a lot of things. But whatever you do, guys, don’t go searching it for tests or anything like that. You might get the wrong answer. And it really may lead you in the wrong direction.

So make sure, good old-fashioned research, also, there’s nothing against that. So that’s why I like to avoid using AI as much as possible with the cast and with this kind of stuff, because you never know what’s true and what’s not. And if enough people say that it’s true, AI believes it’s true. well unfortunately Gillette’s not coming out with a new 395 adjustable but if they ever do you’ll hear it for here first so again don’t trust AI about razor or wet shaving stuff until you’ve done your research now here’s something that is true uh Rocknell the aluminum master collection

2026 release this razor is brand new for 2026 And I am so excited to see it, because I want a Rocknell Master Collection, but it keeps going up every year. And right now, the stainless steel version is 1,150 euros. So if you convert that to dollars, you’re talking probably about 1,300, tariff, whatever, delivery fee. It could be a $1,500 razor, which is a lot for a razor.

This is on the top of the spectrum for pricing of safety razors, right? I don’t know of many razors that go higher than 1,200 euros. I’ve never seen it, at least for list price, I’ve seen razors go for way more than that on the secondary market. Like when the BBS1 razor was going for like, some of them were going for like two, $3,000 afterwards when the company was actually shut down.

and a couple other raises some mongooses we’re going for like a thousand dollars i know you know some gillette some vintage gillettes will go for well over a thousand dollars so this is funny because I was just looking at it, I’m like, man, I really want to get that master collection. And then when I went to go search it again, just to see, because I knew it was coming, the series two just came out, I saw they had the aluminum version up. So I was like, this is really cool.

This is usually a razor that is, they sell quite a few of them. You see a lot of guys buy them and they put them online, then they try to sell them and try to flip them, but they can never end up getting their money back on it. But this one here, you don’t even have to worry about that part. At 395 euros, you can have the same version in aluminum.

It’s got the same functionality, same adjustable, it looks like the same tolerances on everything. It’s the same razor just made out of aluminum, so it’s much lighter. It’s probably about 40% lighter, but still has all the adjustability, still comes in the box, everything like that. But it’s about 395 euros, which is about well less than half, about a third of the price, right?

A fourth of the price maybe. So you’re talking 400, well not fourth, sorry, it’s about a third of the price. But you’re talking about a really good razor for a lot less and a way to get into everybody’s hands. So I’m looking at this razor, I think pre-orders are on for it right now if you’re interested.

I’m possibly I might go make jump and see if I can take the plunge on this because I really want to try it I have a feeling if I get it I’m like, oh, I wish I’d got the stainless steel one, which everybody does but also it’s twice the price So, I don’t know about that or sorry three times the price almost again my math is a little bit off so I apologize guys there if my math is off and it’s not quite a third of the price but I’m just doing this by sight so I apologize and and the sometimes a euro to dollar calculation kind of gets me going too because it fluctuates so I can tell you guys with that, just a little story about Euro. I wanted to buy a shaving scuttle from Denmark, or Germany it was.

That old SHW, the Schwarzam Army, whatever. You call it the big one. You guys have seen it on my blog. I’ve had it, and a lot of guys use it.

It’s probably one of the best Scuttle designs I’ve ever seen that’s why I wanted one, but I remember the euro rate was so high at one point It’s like 1.5 or 1.6, and I was like you know what to get it It’s gonna cost me like like $150 or whatever $200 so then I remember when the euro went under the dollar for briefly and I said okay This is my chance to buy it So I went and bought one and the guy was just going out of, he was just like, hey, I only have a few left, I’m going to be taking a break, I’m not going to be making these anymore. I got very lucky to get the one I wanted and I got it for a price, I saved probably about $40, $50 on it.

So as funny as that sounds, I do look at those things and that’s when you keep a wet shaving goal in the back of your mind, like if you want something like that. For this, I think this kind of helps it out because I was looking at the stainless version and saying, hell man, if I’m gonna get that, I gotta wait for the rate to go down a little bit, because it’s gonna save me a ton of money, and still buying it for the same price. So, I don’t know, I think I’m definitely, I haven’t pre-ordered it yet, but I’m on the fence, I definitely think I might be doing that.

So, if I do, I will definitely do a review for you guys all, and talk about it, because I’ve always wanted one, it’s been on my wish list, and I think I just convinced myself now just to do it. And Father’s Day is coming up, guys. That’s right. Father’s Day is in a few weeks.

And what better way to celebrate than to get that special father in your life a piece of wet shaving memory, right? Or a wet shaving tool or software, whatever you want to call it. But there’s also a few things to do when you do purchase for that father, for your husband, for your brother, for anybody that you’re purchasing for Father’s Day when you do a gift giving for the wet shaver. Now, every year I do like a gift giving guide.

And this year I said to myself, you know what, not everybody’s got all that time and can do all that. Let me make it easy for everybody here and just do it in three simple steps. So, if you follow these three simple steps, I guarantee you’ll get the right gift for that special dad in your life. because I know from my personal experience.

Now, everything I’m going to talk about has happened to me at some point. Remember, I am a father, I am a wet shaver for a long time, and people always want to get me wet shaving gifts. And finally, I think if they would have followed these steps, they probably would have gotten me the right stuff. So, number one, ask questions.

Ask them what they like scent wise. Ask them is there anything on their wish list, et cetera. You know, ask them questions about what they like about wet shaving. You’ve seen them using a safety razor, take a look at the blazer they’re using, take a look at the razor, and then ask those questions.

Say, hey, listen, I know you love wet shaving. Is there anything you’re looking for? Is there anything that you’re on your wish list? Is there anything you’d like for Father’s Day?

Just be upright, upfront. Ask those questions, take notes, and then go to the internet and look for them, right? So when you do that, you want to make sure that, hey, they’re going to say, now, somebody might say, oh, I want a bottom dial or I want a Gillette toggle. Well, you know what, guys, for Father’s Day, it might be tough to get one of those.

If it’s out of your budget or it’s not available on eBay, you may not be able to get that toggle that your dad’s been looking for. But if it is available, At least you’ll know what he likes and you’ll know what he’s looking for and that’s on his wish list so you can get it, you know, get everybody to get together and chip in and can get him one and go from there or you can keep it on for another gift for another time. But ask questions, ask for gift ideas, ask them for their favorite vendors and then go from there.

That kind of brings into the next question. So we said ask questions and we said look at what they’re already using, what type of razor brush soap, making sure that you understand what they’re using already and currently using and what their style is. So again, what I wanted to say is I kind of mentioned this in the first step, but the second step is more along the lines of don’t buy them a straight razor when they only have safety razors and you’ve never heard your father or that father in your life say, I want to use a straight razor, right?

A lot of guys in the wet shaving world don’t go both straight and safety razors when they do that. I like both. I know a lot of guys that do, but some people are just strictly straight razors, some people are just strictly safety razors, and more so along the lines of more people are strictly safety razors than straight razors. So I would say, you know, if you have a friend that just uses safety razors, there’s a good chance that that’s their hobby, that’s their thing, and they may not be into the straight razor, right?

So don’t get them that. Just look at what they’re already using and kind of get an idea from that. Now, there’s a lot of guys that wet shave that use cartridge razors, you know, and there’s nothing wrong with that. They’re fun.

They’re great to collect as well. You can find different ones. Then you can look at what they’re using, and then it’s a little bit easier. You can go on different websites and find a really, like a custom, You know, cartridge razor for them, whatever, brush soap, that’s the way to do it.

A lot of guys also, they like might use natural hair brushes and some use only synthetic. That’s kind of another issue because if you get the synthetic guy a natural brush, they’re probably not going to use it. And if you get the natural brush guy a synthetic brush, they might not use it. So look at them and ask them.

Again, look at what they’re using, get the names of the vendors that they like, and then kind of search from there. I guarantee you’ll find exactly what they’re looking for as well. And the biggest step that I always say, avoid stores that don’t specialize in wet shaving, such as Marshall’s, T.J. Maxx, et cetera, right?

Do not go to Marshall’s or T.J. Maxx. They usually have some wet shaving stuff there. So here’s the thing, my wife is great.

She gets great gifts. When I first started watching, I mean, she used to get me stuff from there. She’d see it and just get it for me. And then I would end up giving it away or just never using it or using it once or twice because the quality of the stuff you usually find at Marshalls and stuff, not very good, soft brand, whatever.

And it’s just not really for me, or I already have two Welshie safety razors as it is, and I got another one, another different name. And you know, the thought is always there, it’s very nice. And the thought’s the most important part, right? But it’s just something you won’t use.

So I always tell everybody going shopping, if you see it at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, unless it says Proraso on it, do not purchase it. Because sometimes they get Proraso products and that’s good. But if it says some off-brand you never heard of, or some weird soap thing, Don’t get it because they’re probably not going to use it.

If they’re already listening to this podcast and you’re listening to it to find out what they like, good chances they’re not using that stuff and they’re not using those off-brand soaps. So get them something good. Give yourself a little time because when you do purchase online directly through vendors, it does take a little bit longer. It’s not like it’s Amazon where they ship it next day, you get it in a day.

You might have to wait a little bit, but it’s well worth the wait because usually when you buy from an artisan, you get better stuff. Look at what they like, search. So just to summarize everything all at once, ask those questions of what they like about what shaving, ask them if there’s anything on their wish list. Then look at what they’re already using and kind of take a look from that and search from there.

So make sure you stick to what they’re using, what they like. And if they want, unless they say they want to try something else, but for that part, just do a little snooping, right? I would say a little detective work goes a long way here. And then avoid stores that don’t specialize in wet shaving for the gift.

If you follow these three steps, I guarantee you’ll have a great gift for that dad in your life. And I think they’ll be very happy with the outcome. Oh, and also guys, if you ever have a question, if you are listening and you are not a wet shaver and you’re listening to get some ideas for somebody else, you can email me at joe.wetshavingnews at gmail.com and I will respond and get you a response. an idea of what that person might like, just if you can answer these three questions and give me some bullet points what they like, I’ll be able to direct you in the right direction.

If you have any friends or any family that needs some help, I do recommend that. You can email any of your friends. If you guys want to email me directly, that’s fine. I will definitely help you out.

So I got some emails from listeners, a few emails from listeners. I want to talk about what I received in the last couple of weeks, which is great. And sometimes I forget to mention these emails on the podcast. But it’s important to let the listeners know that I’m listening.

I do apologize. I may not answer the emails as quickly as possible, but I do answer each and every one of them. And I wanted to feature these because I got a couple good ones here from last week. So John sent me an email regarding the Feather ASD2.

So he said, hey, he’s been listening to the podcast. And he’s been using this razor primarily since 2018. When he said this to me, I jumped out of my chair. I said, wow, finally I got what I was looking for here.

I was looking to see if somebody really uses this razor often, and somebody did. And John has been using this razor for about eight years solid. Solid eight years use. So this is exactly kind of like the person, if you want to know about a razor, this is the type of person you want to talk to because this guy knows every ounce, every square centimeter of this razor, right?

Every little, every square inch of performance, everything, he’s done it. He knows it. He’s used it every day. So he’s used different brushes and soaps, but he’s always gone back to this razor.

He was very happy that we mentioned it because he also feels like, you know, he doesn’t hear too much about, he hears a lot about the new stuff that we talk about, but this razor’s been around for a long time and is actually, it was the original high-end razor. Like we talked about it a little bit when I, in my response, this was the original, like really like high quality, high-end razor out of the, like the artisan movement, right? When everything went away, when Gillette went away, there was only a few razor companies out there making razors.

McCore was one of them. Feather was one of them. There was a couple other ones out there. Mule was out there.

Edwin Jagger. All these other brands were out there. I think I said the wrong name on that razor. I’m thinking of something else.

I think I’m right if it’s Edwin Jagger. I’m sorry. I’m just having like a little bit of a Like a like a block here. I thought that anyway, I’ll get on to what I’m talking about here But the feather was one of the original razors still being made and it was the high-end one was like it used to be like 300 bucks or 200 bucks or something like that and And it

was really, it’s just a fun razor to use. Stainless steel, great razor. And finally to find somebody that’s been using it primarily for a long time was very exciting to me. So he really loves this razor.

He used different soaps and brushes, but he always sticks to this one and was really glad that we brought it up. So John, thank you for this email. It really went a long way. It’s a really, and you’re right, it is a really good razor for everyday use that doesn’t get the attention it used to get because of all the new stuff, but still trusting, it’s trustworthy.

You can still trust this razor and know it’s going to be there and understand how great it is. So thank you, John, for writing in. I also received a razor from somebody, from Sam, who owns, He actually owns the Freya. So I was saying it wrong, Freya is how it’s pronounced.

And he’s a listener and he bought this razor and he says it’s really good. He says he actually really believes in the lather channel, says it really helps it perform well and gives it the lubrication it needs. But he said also the strongest thing going for is the clamping, that clamping with the magnet. He says it’s really nice and gives an absolutely chatter-free shaving.

when you’re shaving against the grain. So he’s a big fan of the razor. He gave me some links too to look up for some information on it. So I’ll tell you a little funny story.

He wrote to me and he wrote, he said, I’m the owner of the Freya razor. I’m like, oh, I said, oh, okay. He owned the company. So I was like, when I wrote back to him, I was like, oh, great.

You know, I’m really, I saw the razor, great idea with the channels and all that stuff. He said, no, no, I’m not an owner of the razor. I’m the owner of the razor, not of the company. I own a Freya razor.

So I was like, oh boy, that was kind of embarrassing. I didn’t read the email primarily. I guess I missed the uh part of it instead of when he wrote owner. So I apologize for that, Sam.

But it was a good laugh, I’m sure, for both of us. They gave me some links and some other information about it. So he’s a really big fan So I appreciate him writing in as well and talking about it says it’s definitely Vouching for the Razor saying it’s a really good performance loves the clamping aspect and the chatter free performance, especially against the rain great All right, guys, so that’s concluding the podcast for this week.

I just wanted to go over a couple of things for Father’s Day coming up. Our next show will be before Father’s Day, but just to get ready, because I know when you get ready for a big event like that, and especially with watch gaming, it’s not the fastest shipping in the world for our stuff. So I want to make sure you guys have enough time to get what you really need for that special day in your life. And went a little bit over our time, but hopefully that doesn’t bother anybody.

I wanted to say that also, I will be, I’ll be doing a little bit of a, excuse me, traveling for work in the next few weeks and traveling for home. So I will be around. If I don’t answer emails right away, I apologize. I won’t have my, I won’t have any email for the next week.

So I am going out of town, but I will be back and ready for, hopefully I find some good West Shaving stuff on my travels there. Remember, our show is powered by Sharpologist.com, which your father didn’t teach you about shaving.
