The Rise of RazoRock Cyber – The Latest Entry into the Realm of Easy, Forgiving Shavers

Today we discover the fresh new shave option that is the Cyber Razor, from RazoRock / Italian Barber. The Cyber Razor represents the latest entry into what I affectionately referred to as “training wheels razors,” whereby the shave plane that you apply to the face is already preset. There is no guesswork here: you simply “place and pull” and your shave is off the races.

Good Company

Another suitable moniker here might be “comfort razors”, because of the engineered emphasis on superior control of blade curvature and the elimination of blade chatter, all done with an eye to maximize shave comfort. As with other entrants such as the Henson razor or the Winning Razor, these razors emphasize superior control of blade curvature and offer effectively no blade chatter, thereby eliminating Some of the harshness and skin irritation you may get with some of the more classically-styled vintage double edge shavers.

At first glance, the futuristic styling evident here seemingly borrows design language from the Tesla CyberTruck, with the clearly defined edges and drastic angles.

Prototype research and development on the Cyber Razor apparently began in late 2023, as evidenced by posts on one of the online wet shaving forums. I saw some early photos and recognized that this would be similar in performance to the more established Henson. I thus made a mental note to acquire one immediately upon release, which I did a few minutes after launch on October 24th, 2024. I’ve enjoyed my shave-based experimentation ever since it arrived.

Yet more good news arrives with this Avant-garde shaving implement: the price is quite modest, ringing up at almost half the price of the Henson razor before shipping. That’s right, for the princely sum of two $20 bills plus shipping, the Cyber Razor arrives at your door with one of three handles of your choice.

Coming past this very economical price point, the construction is 6061 aluminum, and the weight is around 40 grams. Almost all Aluminum products sold to consumers are anodized, and frequently color anodized, to protect the surface from oxidation and to prevent the buildup of abrasive aluminum oxide. The head assembly is clear anodized and the handle has a black Cerakote coating on it.

Talk About Tolerances

Regarding the construction, details from the manufacturer are scant, and I do not have solid numbers regarding blade exposure or blade gap. The height of the head assembly measures around 10.2 mm, and the shaver head is long enough at 43mm to fully cover the blade tabs, thereby further increasing the comfort and safety of this razor. The fit and finish is very precise; the CNC machined assembly allows the blade to drop directly onto the protruding tabs inside the cap with almost no “play” or wiggle room, ensuring good repeatability and consistent performance in shave after shave.

A common complaint with this style of razor is “suction feel” or drag induced by the comparably large surface area surrounding the blade edge. The online forums and discord servers are rife with complaints from avid wet shavers regarding the suction feel of, e.g., the Winning Razor, the Henson Razor, etc. Today’s good news here is the anodized coating of the Cyber Razor drastically cuts down on drag against the skin when paired with a super slick soap lather, and the lightweight build of the full razor is almost akin to what you might experience when departing from the world of the dreaded plastic cartridge shavers.

A newbie is quite welcome to pick up the Cyber razor and go to town. The pre-set 30° shave angle makes starting with this razor almost too easy. The blade edge will either contact the surface and cut away those pesky whiskers, or it does not and everything is left intact on one’s face. This makes wet shaving with a safety razor about as safe as it can possibly get, and a boon to those clients with exceedingly sensitive skin.

How Does it Feel?

When I get down to putting this shave instrument into action, the final shave comes off with grace and ease. Because I did not yet own a dedicated mild razor in my stable, I jumped at the mild variety with the stylish Cyber handle. My first morning shave proved the ultimate wisdom of my choice.

shave of the day

The anodized surface makes this razor slicker and smoother than even polished stainless steel, and I notice less drag in application. I have to press in at times to get the complete Baby Bottom Smooth (B.B.S.) finish, but this doesn’t distract from the operation. I can use slightly less pressure in the sensitive neck region and still get a comfortable finish which could easily pass military inspection by any drill sergeant.

Redness, soreness, and irritation are now distant and fading memories when using this Cyber Razor. There is noticeably less blade feel here than I experience with a medium Henson or the current release of the Winning Razor, and there is certainly less blade chatter and/or blade feel that I get from a Rockwell 6S on almost any plate. This is another razor which I’ll be pleased to reach for during my future morning shave rituals.

Likewise, head shaves are a breeze with this Cyber Razor. I’m a solid proponent of using milder razors when shaving areas you cannot directly view, and the job is done here fast, cheap, and painlessly. Gone are the days when lather would show small red spots because I inadvertently applied too much pressure. The hair just sloughs right off the skin and is carried away through the generous drain channels, leaving you with a glossy smooth shave finish, zero redness, and nary a hint of any “shave drama”.

The Final Cut:

In conclusion, I must applaud RazorRock / Italian Barber for tossing their hat into the ring with this style of razor. For many years they have been tireless purveyors of precisely-machined shavers in premium marine grade 316 stainless steel, and the Cyber Razor proves they can once again deliver good quality and remarkable value for less cost than the competition.

Pros:

  • Easy for beginners to work with.
  • Very affordable.
  • A precise CNC-machined product.
  • Lightweight.
  • Your choice of mild or medium performance.

Cons:

  • Aluminum is okay, but stainless and/or titanium would also be nice options.
  • Some may find it too light.
  • Color anodized options would serve up more eye candy.

Final Verdict:

A sublimely comfortable and agreeable razor suitable for both the novice or the more experienced hand. Get one soon, this model may not be around long.

  1. Thanks to this article I now know why shaving with my Medium Aluminium Henson razor never shave the same as my Medium Henson Titanium razor – the oxidation on the bare aluminium. Sadly when purchased multiple years ago no coatings were available sadly. The titanium razor does oxidise slightly but not to the degree the bare aluminium razor does.
