I am a bloomer, and took your advice and tried shaving without blooming this morning. To be honest, I did not really notice much of a difference, which begs the question, why bloom in the first place? I do think it will take some getting used to with the water content in my brush (RazoRock Plissoft synthetic) and blooming does provide a wetness to the surface of the soap. The performance was the same, I did have to add some extra water to my brush. I used B&M Leviathan which I always get a great lather from and with this experiment was no different. As a side note my water-softer goes on cycles where sometimes the water is extreamly hard, which was the case for this shave.
“Blooming” has more to do with enhancing the scent of a soap. Softening the soap for loading is a positive byproduct. Especially triple-milled hard soaps.
