Mingoose is Here

The latest Mongoose Razor is here! The Mingoose is a slightly smaller version of it’s big brother and takes smaller  Schick injector blades.

This razor is currently available from Maggards. I look forward to seeing the reviews!

[NOTE FROM “MANTIC59” – I have one coming!  Review on Sharpologist soon!  🙂  ]

Discussion of the Week:   Replicating Classic Razor Designs (Right or Wrong)

In the past few weeks there has been a lot of discussion on whether or not replicating designs is a right or wrong thing to do.

PAA has replicated some past designs of razors that were all but forgotten.  The company Yaqi has been replicating those same designs and selling it for less to the competition as well as offering them direct from their own site. Another example would be the Mongoose SE design.  While the Cobra SE was the first to use the larger artist style blades Mongoose changes it up.  Since 2014 several vendors have been using a similar design.

Are there legal issues here?  Or just morals being violated?  I’ll discuss both sides of the story but here are some points:

  • All DE razors produced today are modifications of Gillette’s original design
  • Patents are very expensive and do not last forever.
  • Quality materials do make a difference.
  • It’s a free market

Training Tip of the Week: New Video: Personna BBS-0

This razor may very well be the inspiration of the recently discontinued BBS-1.  I was lucky enough to get my hands on one!

I am currently borrowing a BBS-1 from a good friend and will have another video of the razors shaving side by side!

Formal written review coming soon!

Special thanks to Frank T, Kevin P, and Eddie G for their support in making this happen!

Product Review: Mike’s Natural Soaps

One of the original artisans in modern times, I have been a customer of Mike’s since he was producing soap in Brooklyn.

He started around 2009/2010 about the same time I started wet shaving and was my first artisan purchase. I’ll tell you all about his stuff!
