  1. I just wanted to take a moment to comment on this episode of the podcast. I’ve been reading this site and listening to the podcast here for a while now but have never been motivated to comment until now.

Thank you for doing this episode!

As someone relatively new to this community to is active on forums and reddit I have always been put off by the negativity I have seen in these communities. For the most part conversations are civil and a joy to be a part of but if someone happens to express the wrong opinion they can find themselves being harassed rather quickly.

When I was new and just started visiting these sites the whole Douglas Smythe PPF HTGAM story was blowing up. I had just made my first purchase from Maggards and had purchased three Smythe products. They all performed great, and convinced me that wet shaving was something I wanted to invest money and time into. It was then shocking and saddening to me to not be able to share this story whit anyone on these sites. Suddenly the thing I was most excited about in this community was a taboo topic. It took me quite some time to eventually post on a different topic, but I am always aware of Smythe and how if I express that I still like to use his Cavendish soap, I could be suddenly attacked for sharing this opinion. We are all entitled to form our own opinions and share them, but we should also be aware of how the manner in which we share these opinions may be received by others listening.

Sorry for the long comment, and thanks again for making this episode.

    1. You are correct in noticing the badgering and opinionated comments. The secret to a quality forum is to gave hood modeaters. Many years ago I was a moderator on a forum based out if the UK. I basically had the duty to mind the site during the US hours when the UK members were sleeping. I wouldn’t hesitate to delete a post or ban someone for bad behavior because of that for many years and even today the site is top quality

I avoid almost all the shaving forums as most are just a bunch of braggards and blowhards who have very little in quality content to offer. I have learned from Mark’s videos and Big John, GeodatBoy and Buster then on any forum.

Much like my brewing hobby I fund another group of poorly moderated forums that share very little knowledge. I find this site to be the most informative.

  2. “There are not a lot of activities where we can slow down and take time for ourselves in a meaningful way” You nailed this, hit the nail on the head. Well done.
