The Piccadilly Shaving Company is a new wet shaving brand cut from the same cloth as the established British shaving brands. I got a chance to try their flagship shaving cream along with a few other of their products, all sandalwood scented.
Shave Cream
The Piccadilly shave cream I tried is noticeably “creamier” and more dense in the tub than other British shave creams. In fact it was easy for me to pick up too much product with just one twist of the shave brush. A quick dip in the tub was all I needed to cover the brush’s bristles. It lathered easily and quite luxuriously, even in my “hard” water. The scent is distinct but not particularly long-lasting. Even though it’s labeled as “sandalwood” the scent is a little more complex than that. From their website:
Fragrance Notes: Top notes of rosemary, amber, geranium, lavender, & lavender. Middle Notes of orange blossom, carnation, & fern. Base Notes sandalwood, rock rose, patchouli, vetivert, & musk.
My notoriously poor sense of smell picked up the “woody” scents but not so much of the citrus or floral scents. YMMV.
I found the performance top-notch, definitely competitive with the other high-end British products. This cream made my “best” shaving cream list recently!
Ingredients: Aqua, Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid, Postassium Hydroxide, Coconut Fatty Acid, Glycerin, Parfum, Triethanolamine, Sodium Hydroxide, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, (Parfum Contains: Benzyl Cinnamate, Benzyl Salicylate. Citronellol, Coumarin, Eugenol, Geraniol, Linalool, Evernia Furfuracea, Evernia Prunastri Extract, Limonene)
Aftershave
The Piccadilly aftershave continues the Sandalwood theme with a very similarly-scented balm. It soaked in quickly and provided me with adequate protection. It is paraben-free, alcohol-free, and has no added colors, which is a plus in my book.
Ingredients: Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl, Stearate SE, Caprylic / Capric Triglycerides, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Cetyl Alcohol, Betaine Allantoin, Hydrolysed Algin, Chlorella Vulgaris, Maris Aqua, Parfum, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin (Parfum Contains: Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Cinnamate, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Coumarin, Eugenol, Geraniol, Linnalool, Evernia Furfuracea, Evernia Prunastri Extract, Limonene).
Pre Shave
For those who need a little extra protection with their shave, Piccadilly has a pre-shave gel, also with the same sandalwood scent. It seemed to do the job but for me I found the shaving cream provided all the protection I needed.
Ingredients: Aqua, Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Distillate, Propylene Glycol, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Alchohol Denat, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Parfum, Allantoin, Benzyl Alcohol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Imidazolidinyl, Urea (Parfum Contains: Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Cinnamate, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Eugenol, Geraniol, Linalool, Evernia Furfuracea).
Deodorant Stick
Not something I would normally get from a “shaving” vendor, I tried Piccadilly’s deodorant stick as well. It has an unusual consistency for me: not quite solid but not the semi-solid “goo” that a lot of deodorant sticks have…it’s somewhere between. It shares the sandalwood scent of the rest of the line but it’s milder and disappears quickly. And I think it works quite well…in fact it has turned into my daily deodorant product.
Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, PPG-3 Myristyl Ether, Dipropylene Glycol, Stearic Acid, Alcohol Denat, Aqua, Parfum, Sodium Hydroxide, Triclosan, (Parfum Contains: benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Cinnamate, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Coumarin, Eugenol, Geraniol, Linalool, Evernia Prunastri, Evernia Furfuracea, Limonene).
