Captains Choice Land Ho!

Listen to this article

I recently got a chance to try Captain’s Choice’s new “Land Ho!” line of shave products.

My Experience With Captain’s Choice Land Ho!

Note: Captain’s Choice sent me a jar of cream, a jar of soap, and a bottle of balm, unsolicited. I did not specifically request the products; the opinions below are my own and have not been reviewed or approved in advance by Captain’s Choice.

The scent is consistent for me across the line and just what the Captain says it is: citrus then lavender.  My insensitive nose “getting” the scent that an artisan describes is a minor miracle in itself, so I’m pleased.  I would describe the effect as moderate in strength and of moderate persistence.

Lathering both the shave soap and the shave cream is quite easy for me and I can get a voluminous, creamy lather in no time (the cream’s lather is a bit more voluminous and the scent a bit stronger than the shave soap but the difference is minor.  As I’ve mentioned before I find lather from Captain’s Choice to be exceptionally stable.

Unfortunately I get a bit of skin irritation when using the Land Ho! shave cream.  I discontinued use after a couple of tries.  I haven’t experienced this problem with other Captain’s Choice shave creams so I can only attribute it to something in the fragrance formulation– YMMV.  I don’t experience any irritation with the shave soap.

In any case, the performance of the shave soap is excellent and another reason Captain’s Choice is on Sharpologist’s “best shave soap” list: both lubrication/glide and cushion/protection are among the best I have used.

Post-shave moisturization is solid for me.  I’m generally not a fan of high-alcohol aftershave products so I did not try the splash.  The aftershave balm works well to provide a complementary performance for skin nourishing.

Conclusion

Note: Amazon and West Coast Shaving links are affiliate.

Captain’s Choice continues its nautically-themed mission to provide great shaving products.  Land Ho! provides another example of great performance along with a “simpler” scent profile.  Land Ho! is available on the Captain’s Choice website and West Coast Shaving; other Captain’s Choice products are available on Amazon.
