[Note from "mantic59”–I recently offered my Youtube channel to other wet shaving video creators to show off their work. The first "taker” of this offer is the I’d Lather Be Shaving channel.] This week I’d Lather Be Shaving delves into the not-often-talked-about concept of creating your own patina or distressed look on your “daily driver” razor! This can be done on modern or vintage razors in a variety of ways. We will be looking at using store bought solutions which can be found online and some craft stores. 8 oz bottles of Brass Ager and Nickel Ager can be found at many hardware stores, but Google can provide you with other purchase options!
The great thing about this is, if you don’t get the results you want, you can always polish up the razor and begin again! Take your time and have fun with this project, just remember to wear gloves and eye protection!
But what is patina?
On metal, patina is a coating of various chemical compounds such as oxides, carbonates, sulfide
Patina also refers to accumulated changes in surface texture and colour that result from normal use of an object such as a coin or a piece of furniture over time.
