Sharpologist Does Some Housekeeping

Listen to this article

Sharpologist has moved to a new hosting platform.  While the previous host was certainly adequate, it just wasn’t keeping up with the times and it was preventing easy changes and improvements to the site.

You won’t see too many obvious changes at first: the migration is as close to “apples-to-apples” of the over-all look of the site as practical.  The previous platform ran on a much earlier version of the blogging software that’s running here.  As with many software updates, there are minor visual tweaks and redesigns but the big changes are behind the scenes.

Over the next several months there will be changes to both the “look” of the site and improving the feature set with the aim of making it more streamlined and easier to use.  One improvement right off the bat–you can now (finally!) subscribe to article comments, so if someone replies to your comment you will know about it.  Improvements to site navigation to make it easier to find the content that is most relevant to you, adding better feedback tools to show what kinds of articles are most popular, and making the site faster and easier to read (especially on mobile devices), are also planned.

Your help is needed with helping to determine new functionality.  What kinds of things do you want to see?

  • A Q&A section (not a forum, there are already enough of those)?
  • A product review database?
  • Online courses on shaving and grooming?

Did you find something “broken?”  What new features would you like to see?  Leave a comment below!

  1. This morning sharpologist.com was plastered with ads – click on another page – more ads. To have put up with the ads and filter through all the “look what arrived today”, ‘shave of the day’ tripe
to find an odd interesting item is not enjoyable. So you have lost me. I have been a fan almost since the inception of Sharpologist. Your link is no longer in my bookmarks.

  2. I think online courses would be a great idea! As the wetshaving forums drift off into “look how much stuff I bought” sites, basic instruction seems to have been de-emphasized. How about courses for those contemplating a switch to traditional shaving, including equipment recommendations? If there were companion online reviews of the various pieces of recommended starter gear, that would be even better. It would be kind of like the companion books to some TV documentaries. Or maybe a companion book on Amazon?

Just a thought, for what it’s worth.

    1. I agree with Thone.
Less “Look what I’ve got” and better information about shaving , techniques, and how to promote the enjoyment of shaving.
