Achieving good complexion can be a challenging task for those who do not possess healthy skin. Skin undergoes many changes due to the various functions that go on within the skin. These functions tend to get disturbed when we fail to take care of it on a regular basis or due to unhealthy eating and lifestyle.

In order to enhance the beauty of skin, one should make some changes in diet and lifestyle. Apart from this, you should follow a skin care routine depending on your type of skin which will improve the texture and quality of your skin. Don’t know what type of skin you have?

Normal: relatively oil-free and acne is not much of a problem.
Oily Skin: there is a shine to it and often has build up or acne.
Dry/Sensitive Skin: gets easily irritated and often feels dry or tight.
Combination:  guys who have combo type skin have an oily T zone, but have dry or sensitive skin on the rest of their face, primarily the cheeks.

Here is a peek into some skin care routines meant for a particular type of skin which will help your skin acquire a healthy complexion.

1. CLEANSING

Dry Skin
Invest in a good cleanser for your dry skin. If your skin is excessively dry, use a cream-based cleanser and apply it to your face using a cotton pad to wipe away grime and other build up on your face both in the morning and at night. Don’t skip the night time cleansing as residues tend to wreak havoc on your skin if left on the skin when you sleep.

Oily Skin
Skin cleansing is the most important step to remove the build-up of oils in the skin pores as failing to do so leads to clogged pores which are the main reason behind the development of whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. Use a non comedogenic cleanser to remove grime from the oily skin. To open clogged pores you can steam your face before cleansing to remove deep-seated grime in the pores.

Combination Skin
Combination skin is prone to blackheads and pimples on the T-zone. Hence, you must use a non-comedogenic cleanser, especially on the T-zone to ebb away oils and grime. For the rest of the face, you can use a cleanser for normal skin.

Normal Skin
Normal skin does not need any targeted approach. However, it does release a healthy amount of oils which need to be cleansed away. Use a light cleanser to remove dirt from normal skin.

2. TONING

Dry Skin
A dermatologically approved toner for dry skin will help calm any redness or rashes that frequently affect the dry skin and will also help in shrinking pores to prevent them from clogging. Some skin toners contain alcohol which is not safe for dry skin as one runs the risk of stripping away skins natural oils which can lead to irritations and infections.

Oily Skin
In order to prevent dirt and oils from settling inside the pores in the oily skin, you have to use an astringent or toner to close the pores. Choose a non-comedogenic toner to nourish your skin and shrink the pores after cleansing your skin. You can also rub ice over your face to minimize skin pores.

Combination Skin
You should not miss toning if you have combination skin. It will help in removing any residual oils from the skin left after cleansing and will also eliminate that tight feeling on your face. For combination skin, opt for a toner with natural extracts to promote healthy skin.

Normal Skin
Opt for a gentle toner for normal skin as this type of skin already gas normal ph levels and using any harsh products on it may interfere with the ph levels.

3. MOISTURIZING

Dry Skin
Moisturizing is imperative to maintain the youthfulness and elasticity of skin. Opt for a heavy moisturizer to lock in moisture in dry skin. This will also protect your skin against microbes and will curb the possibility of skin irritation which remains high in dry skin.

Oily Skin
Many people with oily skin tend to skip the moisturizing step assuming that it will cause their skin to breakout which is a myth. When our skin is devoid of moisture, it tries to cope with the dryness by releasing more oils which then gets mixed up with dirt and bacteria and causes the skin to break out. Using a  water based non-comedogenic moisturizer will help in maintaining the ph balance of the skin and also remove blackheads or acne.

Combination Skin
You have to be very selective about the type of moisturizer you choose for combination skin. Opt for a moisturizer that helps in balancing sebum release on the T-zone without drying out your skin. Use a gentle moisturiser on the rest of your face to keep your skin supple and moisturized.

4. EXFOLIATION

Dry Skin
Removing the dead skin cells depositing on the surface of the skin is essential to enhance its look. However, in case of dry skin, one should refrain from over scrubbing as it might make your skin irritated and inflamed. Use a mild exfoliater once a week to get rid of the dead and flaky skin.

Oily Skin
Oily skin remains highly vulnerable to blackheads and pimples which makes exfoliation an essential part of managing this type of skin. You can use natural scrubs to eliminate dead skin. If you suffer from blackheads and pimples using a salicylic acid based exfoliator will help in unclogging toughened grime inside the skin pores and remove the dead tissues from the surface of the skin.

Combination skin
In combination skin, you have to pay attention to exfoliating your T-zone to keep it devoid of residual oils and dirt. Choose a natural exfoliator to eliminate dead skin on this type of skin. When you exfoliate, you have to moisturize the non-oily part of your face really well to ensure it does not become too dry after scrubbing.

Normal Skin
Those with normal skin often forego the exfoliation thinking that their skin does not need it. But incorporating a gentle exfoliator at least once or twice a week would help combat dullness on your skin.

5. SKIN SERUMS

Skin serums have recently gained much popularity as they promise to offer you results within a short span of time and come with almost negligible side effects. Investing in a good skin serum depending on your skin type will give you an envious complexion.

6. FACE MASKS

Just as your body needs food to keep it in the best form, your skin also needs nourishment from time to time. Using special masks for your face would bring out the real health of your skin by infusing the nutrients it requires to work efficiently.
