St. James Of London Expands

Listen to this article

St. James of London expanded their line to include hair care products as well as their shave cream and grooming lines.  So if you enjoy the scent of their shave creams, you can have them in other things too!

The Line

The expanded line includes a body wash in all of their signature scents: Cedarwood & Clarysage, Mandarin & Patchouli, Black Pepper & Lime, Lavender & Geranium, and Sandalwood & Bergomot.

They also have a Lemongrass & Bergamot shampoo, a Lavender & Geranium conditioner, and a pomade.

I got the shampoo, conditioner, and Black Pepper & Lime (my favorite St. James of London shave cream scent) to try out.

The Body Wash

I’m a big fan of the scent (and performance!) of St. James of London’s Black Pepper & Lime shave cream and aftershave gel so I was very curious about how I would like the body wash.

I thought the scent was rather subdued in the body wash (compared to the shave cream), more subtle and muted.  Maybe all that steam in my shower had something to do with it.  🙂

But the wash’s performance was very good: the consistency was not-too-thick-or-thin, it lathered up well (particularly when I use a nylon “puffy”), cleaned well, and rinsed off cleanly.

Ingredients: Deionized Water, Laureth Sulfate, Acrylates Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Polysorbate 20, Benophenone-4, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Jojoba Beads (Jojoba Esters, Titanium Dioxide), Sandalwood and Bergamot essential oils

The Hair Conditioner

Compared to my experience with the shampoo (below), the scent of the conditioner was perhaps a bit of a let-down.  The Lavender & Geranium scent of the conditioner–much like their shave cream is very mild…almost scent-less to my admittedly insensitive nose.
But the performance was solid: it rinsed cleanly and moisturized well.

Ingredients: Water(aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Ceteareth-20, Isopropyl Mynstate, Lanolin, Lavanoula Angustitolia (Lavender) Oil, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Disodium EDTA, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, Sodium PCA, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Alantoin, Lecithin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Epilobium Angustifolium Flower/Leaf/Steam Extract, Propulene Glycol, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylparabenm, Propylparaben

The Shampoo

The St. James of London Lemongrass & Bergamot shampoo was easily my favorite of the non-shaving products I tried.  The Lemongrass & Bergamot shampoo had a fairly strong, really pleasant (to me) scent that kind of hearkened me back to the experience I enjoy with their shaving cream.  But, more importantly, performance was outstanding.  In fact, I would consider this one of the best shampoos I have ever used.  It lathered richly, cleaned my hair thoroughly without stripping off too much of the oils that are important to the hair’s health, and left my hair looking and feeling soft and healthy.

Hey St. James!  Make this stuff in the Black Pepper & Limes scent and you’ll have me for life!

Ingredients: Water (aqua), Soium Laureth Sulfate, Coco-Betaine, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Sodium Lauroyl Oat Amino Acids, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Chloride, Propylene Glycol Stearyl Citrate, Lauryl Glucoside, Polyquaternium-11, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance, Blue-1

Some of these products are also available on Amazon (affiliate link).

  1. St. James of London shave creams are top performers with terrific fragrences. I am disappointed to see that new additions to their line include parabens and trietholomine (the latter is in the shaving creams). There is really no excuse, given that so many makers of personal care products have re-formulated their lines and eliminated these harmful ingredients.
