Mark,
been awhile since replying, but love the shirt! HAVE to get one! Been with your site since (2012?) been a long while. Wow you’ve come a long ways, good to see. Unfortunately while I keep reading Sharpologist I haven’t kept up with the podcasts like I’d like to. Thanks again for all the hard work and information you provide!
Why don’t Maggards stock PAA?
Although our original intent was to invite companies that we stock so our customers could learn more about the products available at our store, I failed to make the vendor tickets privately listed – an oversight on my part. When PAA bought one along with a plane ticket, I decided to honor it and allow him to come, that’s all. It was quite drama free.
PAA’s presence actually added to the atmosphere at the event, there was really nothing negative about him being there. PAA was professional and courteous.
Everyone had a great time – feedback has been nothing but positive!
Thanks Brad for your very humble reply
The fact is PAA put you in a deliberately awkward position.
Not interested in vendors and so called Artisan’s that behave in this manner.
Jess & Zach– I respect your opinions but I think you’re reading a little too much into this ‘controversy.’ I observed that everyone was polite and business-like and judging from the crowd reactions it was a win-win for everyone. I’ll see if I can get Brad to leave a comment here to clear things up.
How despicable
Hey Stratton
I agree. I read on reddit how Brad from Maggard was very polite and explained that Douglas had purchased a ticket and even though it was supposed to be Maggard’s vendor’s only, Douglas was allowed even though as you say and state..they will not stock his products due to his previous questionable business practices. And he produced a soap for the meet up called ‘Olive Branch’. How condescending for a respected vendon. I bet Brad was “cringing”
Good interview. What I didn’t like was that the Maggard’s meetup which I attended was supposed to represent vendors from Maggard’s. Heard from Brad that Douglas Smythe from PAA was an attendee by accident. Why do these Artisan’s who clearly were not supposed to be invited alway’s hijack these events. Also I understand Brad refuses to stock PAA products. Maybe we need some clarification?
Stratton, I will reach out to Brad for comment. FWIW I did not see any conflict or concerns at the event…everyone seemed quite happy! I didn’t observe any vendors getting more (or less) of their fair share of the crowd (the entire vendor area was busy) so I’m not sure “hijack” is the right word to use here.
