Recently, I was visiting our local beauty supply place to get my wife a hairbrush (oh, the things I do). I know they carry Art of Shaving, Jack Black’s and a few other shaving brands, so I asked if they had any shaving samples, and sure enough, they gave me a plethora of samples of Jack Black’s shaving products. On to the shave!

I admit that I tend to be US-centric in reviewing stuff for Sharpologist, because most of the readers are in the US. But I also realize I really need to “expand my horizons” to what is available world-wide more often, so when I got a chance to get some Occams Shave Cream from Australia I decided to give it a try.

King Of Shaves recently announced Hyperglide, a new razor that does not require shaving cream, gel, foam, or soap. There’s no classic lubrication “strip”–the the entire face of the cartridge is coated with a lubricant that is activated by water. It just came out in the UK and will shortly be available in the US at select Target stores and target.com. I was lucky enough to get one of the first units available in the US and I have been using it for a while now.

I usually have pretty good shaves. But every once in a while the stars seem to line up and I get an exceptional shave, even with products I’ve used before. My best shave this week used Mama Bear’s “Dragon’s Blood” shave soap, a Simpson’s Rover brush, my trusty Merkur Progress, Ursa Major’s Face Tonic, and Taconic’s after shave balm. Let me highlight the Mama Bear soap.
