Occams Shave Cream – Original Scent Review

I admit that I tend to be US-centric in reviewing stuff for Sharpologist, because most of the readers are in the US.  But I also realize I really need to “expand my horizons” to what is available world-wide more often, so when I got a chance to get some Occams Shave Cream from Australia I decided to give it a try.

Occams Scent and Performance

Occams describes their “original” scent as “[a] sumptuous, richly lathering artisan shave cream with a subtle blend of spice, exotic citrus oils and warm, mildly earthy notes.”  I definitely get citrus and spices in my nose from the jar.  Lathered on the face I get more of the “earthy notes” and less of the citrus.  It is pleasantly strong and lingering for me–though not overly so–and the lather is fast and excellent even in my hard water (which can be a challenge to shaving products of lesser character).  It is also very concentrated–a little dab’ll do ya.  Even lathered on the face it is a bit richer than most other traditional products and perhaps because of that I find the shave not only close but also exceptionally cushioning.  Michael “Leisureguy” ham has also used this cream and said his experience was “very solid and satisfying.”  I would agree, I think that’s a good description.  The ingredients list French green clay which can irritate my skin in more-than-modest concentrations but I have no problems with the shaves I get from Occams.
Ingredients:

  • Stearic acid
  • Water
  • Glycerin
  • Coconut oil
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Potassium hydroxide
  • Sodium hydroxide
  • Castor oil
  • French green clay
  • Pure essential oils
  • Phenoxyethanol
  • Caprylyl glycol

No parabens, formaldehyde, SLS, ALS, EDTA or synthetic fragrance oils.
At $35 AUD (about $31.50 USD) plus shipping it might be a bit of a price shock to some but I do not think you will be disappointed with it; the performance is easily on-par with the best “top shelf” shaving creams.
Because it’s solid and satisfying. 🙂

  1. As a regular visitor to Sharpologist, I thought I’d give Occams Original Shave Cream a try. Being from Down Under, this product is local to me.
I agree with Mark, this is a fine product equal to any other premium shave cream around. In the past I haven’t seen the need to spend around $35 AUD, but this seems to be worth the extra cost. A concentrated cream requiring only a small amount to produce a thick creamy lather providing smooth razor glide. Scent is pleasant enough with out being over powering. Would highly recommend this product for sure.
It provided my with one of my most smoothest and comfortable shaves ever.
Products used to achieve this: Occams Original Shave Cream, Muhle 31K257 Synthetic Silvertip brush, Muhle R89 safety razor and Personna Platinum red pack Israeli blade.
