I usually have pretty good shaves. But every once in a while the stars seem to line up and I get an exceptional shave, even with products I’ve used before. My best shave this week used Mama Bear’s “Dragon’s Blood” shave soap, a Simpson’s Rover brush, my trusty Merkur Progress, Ursa Major’s Face Tonic, and Taconic’s after shave balm. Let me highlight the Mama Bear soap.
Mama Bear describes this soap as:
“… warming notes of amber, incense, Madagascar vanilla and patchouli, our Dragonsblood is lightened up with layers of romantic notes such as rose, jasmine and lilac. Finally, this sensual, deep blend is topped off with the colorful, light touches of blood orange and grapefruit. “
I mostly get the amber and incense notes (unfortunately my nose is not very sensitive). Anyway it lathers up quickly, easily, and luxuriously. And the lather stuck with me throughout the shave, a trait I really enjoy. This was one of those meditative, Zen-like shaves where my mind slows down and I get into the act of shaving more than usual. There’s just something about watching the razor track cleanly on each stroke, knowing the stubble is just melting away and looking forward to the expression of my wife’s face when she sees me coming out of the bathroom freshly-shaven and looking good for the day….
