Are you an Artisan Shaving Soap Maker? Here’s your chance to show off your skills and get the attention your soap deserves! Sharpologist is proud to announce “Scent Off 2013.” The challenge: create a (“hot process”) shaving soap with a seasonal scent that also performs well and even looks good! You have until October 7 to come up with a scent, blend the ingredients, and produce at least 10 pucks for our judges.
Your pucks will then be distributed to our panel selected from various wet shaving forums and blogs, including:
- Leisureguy (Later On)
- Palpz (Greg’s Shaving Soap Reviews)
- Joseph (Italian Barber)
- rtaylor61 (Badger & Blade)
- fisherc (Shave My Face)
- John Koonz (West Coast Shaving/Badger and Blade)
- Lynn Abrams (Straight Razor Designs/Straight Razor Place)
- Tesite (The Shave Nook)
- slantman (The Shave Nook)
- ridgerunner (The Shave Nook)
Soaps will be judged on scent, performance, and presentation. Each judge will try the soaps then give it a score which will be listed during the evaluation period (We hope you will offer pucks to the public at a discount so their voice can be heard too!). The soap with the highest score…wins! There is no monetary award: we want this to be a fun project to generate a buzz for all involved!

Please note that we’re going to limit the registrations to the first eight artisans, to make the process a little more manageable since it’s our first go at this, our intention is to throw this competition regularly. If it’s successful we’ll open it up to more artisans and “cold process” soaps next time!

Hello! A customer alerted me to this competition, and I tried registering, but did not receive an email to confirm the registration. I am not sure what I did wrong. Be that as it may, I would love to enter a seasonal scented shave soap from Fitjar Soap in this competition, if at all possible. I hope my interest is registered. Greetings from Fitjar!
I have been looking forward to seeing this come to fruition for a few months now. I am very pleased to see that so many people have signed on, and that the competition found such a good home. I’ve enjoyed reading/watching your reviews and tutorials since I started my wet shaving journey last summer, mantic59. I’ll definitely be watching with baited breath to see all that unfolds here.

Thanks for the credit Douglas, though not necessary. I may have been involved at the idea’s inception, and tried to help kickstart it, but when my efforts fell flat, you (and Mark) did some serious leg work. Kudos to you gentlemen. I am thrilled to see this coming to fruition. I notice that Jorunn of Fitjar has requested registration to the competition. I’ve read good things about this soap, and I hope they made it into the competition.
Also, the Lime puck is a kind gesture, but also not necessary. I know you’ve got a business to run, and I don’t want to take away from your (much deserved) profits. I’ve been enjoying the Cavendish, and hope to share my experiences soon- life just gets so darn busy.
