1st Timer

Listen to this article

“I just stumbled across your videos and thought this was a really good idea. I am pre-adolescent and don’t have a dad around to teach me so I wanted to ask you if in addition to what you teach in your video’s, is there anything a first timer needs to know when shaving? To tell you the truth I am a little worried that I am going to cut myself or do it wrong in some way that will cause problems. Anything you could tell me would be helpful. “

For a young first-timer I would say just one pass with the grain of the beard will be enough until your beard starts to get heavier. I can pretty much guarantee you’ll get a nick or cut once in a while–everyone does, including me–but like swimming or riding a bike or dating, it’ll get easier as time goes on. Hang in there.

  1. Like the emailer, I too had no father to teach me about the whole shaving thing. I started with a pack of disposable razors which left me a sliced up bloody mess! I quickly went to the old Mach 3 (it came free in the mail, I like free!) for years, then the five blade turbo. it was purely through trial and error that I discovered what worked, the correct direction to shave each part in, how to hold a razor, the type of gel and how much for my face, etc. It is nice to have someone like you willing to share their experience in not only a written form, but with video as well.

    Thanks!
